1st March 2018 - AGM and first Open Shoot of the year

Thanks to those of you who attended the AGM on 25th February. Unfortunately, as usual, the turnout was disappointing but we take heart in the logic that if only a few people turn up then most people must be reasonably happy with the way the club is being run.

A reminder that the first open shoot of the year is planned for Sunday 1st April 2018. This means that the club practice courses will be closed over that weekend.

For those of you wanting to shoot in the competition, you need to register and pay in advance. The entry form can be downloaded from the "Downloads and Links" page of this web site. Entry is open to all full NFAS members.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT WITH EFFECT FROM 1ST APRIL 2018 (THE DAY OF THE SHOOT) YOU WILL NEED TO PRESENT A CURRENT (2018-2019) NFAS MEMBERSHIP CARD BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. THIS IS AN INSURANCE REQUIREMENT AND THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

AGM and Membership Renewals

The AGM will be held at the club on Sunday 25th February 2018 starting at 10:00hrs. All members will be welcome and tea and coffee making facilities will be available.

From that date, only full members for 2018- 2019 and their guests (signed in and accompanied whilst on the grounds) will be allowed at the club. Membership renewals are being accepted now. The membership application form has been emailed to all members who have an email address and by post for all others. Alternatively, it can be downloaded from the downloads page of this web site. Charity Shoot 7th January 2018

We were blessed with good (but rather cold) weather for this event and were delighted with a great turnout of members and guests.

20 3-D targets were set out along the access track - a set up which encouraged social interaction during the shoot. All were agreed it was a fun way to start the year and a gentle introduction to the more competitive shoots later in the year.

The best news is that our efforts raised a total of £396 for our chosen charity this year - Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Many thanks for all those who turned up and those who worked so hard setting up the course to make the day such a success.

Charity Shoot 7/1/18 - Update

I bit of an update on arrangements for the charity shoot.

Apparently, my previous post was misleading with regards payments.

The shoot is open to all. For members of Fleet Ibex there is no charge although any contributions to charity would be appreciated.

For non-members, there will be a £3.00 charge per person or £5.00 per couple. All proceeds will be donated to charity.

Coming up - Charity Friendly Shoot planned for 7th January 2018

After the success of last year's event we are planning another charity friendly shoot at the club on Sunday 7th January 2018.

We will have around 20 3-D targets set out for you to shoot as and when you like.

There is no particular start time (any time from about 09:00hrs), there is no need to book and there is no shoot fee to pay. However, a contribution to charity would be appreciated.

The event is open to members and non-members so there's no excuse for not turning up and joining in.

Tea and coffee making facilities will be available but you are advised to bring your own food.

After the excesses of the festive season, why not get back into the swing of fresh air and exercise by shooting around the courses?

3DUK Series - Held at Fleet Ibex 7th - 8th October 2017

Fi Berry, a new Fleet Ibex member, volunteered to help with the recent 3DUK Series shoot held at the club grounds on 7th and 8th October 2017. She writes .........

3DUK Series - What is it all about?

For the second year running Fleet Ibex has hosted The Archery Company 3D National Series at the club. The fifth and final event in a UK wide series took place on the 7th-8th of October.

It was an amazing weekend and show cased a modern and innovative format that is growing in popularity year on year. It is an exciting addition to the existing panoply of competition formats and rules.

Far from being an exclusive event it is one of the most inclusive, welcoming archers from every level, shooting Traditional, Recurve, Compound and Crossbows. Its ethos is to promote patience and respect for all archers, whatever style they have chosen to shoot.

While the course set up makes access easy and the close proximity of the targets makes great use of space and reduces the time spent moving between targets. So, more time for shooting!

What really came across was how the format facilitates great social engagement amongst all the participants and encourages a real sense of camaraderie amongst all the archers. Judging from all the laughter and banter from all sides, it definitely works.

There are two competitions each day, comprising of an unknown distance in the morning and known distance— in the afternoon, taking between 3.5 and 4hours each.

The amateur classes compete for medals, while the professionals compete for cash prizes generated from the Pro subs they have paid to enter the event.

There were archers from across the UK and Europe, and even some of Fleet Ibex’s finest who did the club proud by coming away with medals. Congratulations to Steven Hursthouse for winning the amateur Barebow Recurve class and to Ed Britton for coming second in amateur Open Class.

There are additional competitions one of which the Pro Pressure Shoot Down was great fun to watch, as was the charity competition ‘The Long shot’, where archers had to hit a target up to 101 yards distance in the nominated 120mm spot. (Designated Charity - Help for Heroes).

While the event was organised and run by 3DUK, special mention should go to Ibex club secretary Terry Mills, who ensured all the necessary preparation was done and represented the club over the course of the weekend. Here’s looking forward to next year!

Club Championships - 15th October 2017

About 40 members took advantage of good weather to compete in the 2017 club championships. 20 3-D targets were set out - each with two pegs so we could shoot around twice giving a total of 40 targets. The course was specifically set to encourage interaction and socialising which most archers thoroughly enjoyed.

Medals were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each of the bow classes with an overall club champion decided on a handicap system - which is only understood by the membership secretary!!

The overall winner was Sarah Parker with Denis Alston second and Bree Jenkins in third place. Next year we'll have to look carefully at the handicap system so that bow classes other than American Flat Bow have a chance!!

It was a little disappointing that with 200 members we only get 40 to turn out for the competition. Even so, everyone who attended seemed to enjoy themselves.

The full results can be viewed on the Shoot Results and Reports page and a number of photographs have been uploaded to the Photo Galleries page.

Club Championships

Our Club Championships this year will be held on Sunday 15th October 2017.

The event is open to all members of Fleet Ibex.

Medals will be awarded for all the usual NFAS bow classes with an overall winner decided on a handicap basis.

Hopefully we’ll have 20 3-D targets out with the competition being over two rounds – i.e. 40 targets all together.

The shoot will be free of charge and although catering will not be available, there will be facilities for making tea and coffee.

Registration will be held from 08:30hrs with the briefing held so that shooting can start at 10:00hrs prompt.

Entries will be accepted on the day (provided you are a full paid up member) but I would prefer that you let me know if you intend to shoot.

If you wish to shoot in a group, please let me know beforehand so arrangements can be made and targets allocated.

Members who register on the day may have little choice about which group they’ll be in.

The maximum group size will be 4 archers so please don’t ask for more to be included. Larger groups slow the whole event down.
