Club Championships 2018

Many thanks to those of you who did turn up to the Club Championships held on 4th November.

It is disappointing and rather demoralising to have such a small turn out for what is, in essence, our only members only event of the year. We have around 200 members so I feel an attendance of about 35 is poor. Even the weather was no excuse this year - it was fine and dry all day.

The small turnout seems to imply that we are doing something wrong so if you’ve got any suggestions please let one of us know about them. What could we do better to improve attendance?

Enough said.

Those who did come seemed to enjoy the day very much. Terry and Graham set a straight “up and down the road” course which made it easy to marshal and encouraged the usual banter and social interaction between archers. Thanks to them for their hard work.

I’ve posted a gallery of photos - mainly of the medalists. Open the “Photo Galleries” page to view. If anyone has any photos they’d like to add, email hem to me and I’ll include them.

The full results can be seen on the “Shoot Results and Reports page. Well done to all medalists.

In particular, well done to Carolyn Neville who won the overall club champion title on a handicap basis. It seems that the ladies have an advantage when we use handicaps so maybe I’ll have to look again at the top secret method of calculating handicaps!!

Club Championships - More Details

Dear Members,

As you may have seen on the web site or on Facebook, we are holding our annual club championship on Sunday 4th November 2018.

A few more details: (rules subject to change and will be confirmed at the safety briefing)

·         We will have a course with 20 3-D targets set out

·         Competitors will shoot round twice

·         Each target will have 2 pegs – one being shot first time round and the other being shot second time round

·         A second arrow may be shot from the same peg only if the first misses – i.e. max 2 arrows per target.

·         Arrangements for junior pegs still to be finalised – it depends on how many juniors there are likely to be.

·         Normal scoring will apply – i.e. 24/20/16 (first arrow) or 14/10 (second arrow)

·         Registration will open at 08:00

·         Safety briefing will be held at 09:00 so we can start shooting at 09:30 prompt.

·         The competition is open to all Fleet Ibex members paid up for 2018 – 2019. Sorry, we have to be strict over this – I’ll have a list of current members with me!

·         Entry will be free of charge

·         There will be medals awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each NFAS bow class and an overall winner determined on a handicap basis.

·         There will be tea and coffee making facilities (free of charge) but, I’m afraid, no catering so bring your own food.

This is an ideal opportunity to meet other members and, if you are new to competing, an ideal way to see how a competition works.

It is not essential to pre-book your entry – you can just turn up on the day provided you arrive in time to register and attend the safety briefing. However, if you want to nominate who you would like to shoot with, let me know beforehand. Although I’ll do my best, I cannot guarantee you’ll be shooting together if you just turn up – I may need to split up groups to even out the numbers.

To let me know if you are attending and / or to let me know what groups you’d like to shoot with, email me with details at

Club Championships

A note for your diaries:

On 4th November 2018 we’ll be holding our annual club championships. As before, we will have many of our 3-D targets out and a course of 20 targets will be set with the intention that we shoot around twice. Medals will be up for grabs in all NFAS classes with overall winner, runner up and third place decided on a handicap basis.

If you have never shot in a competition before, this is an ideal way to get a taster of what it is all about.

This is open to all members of Fleet Ibex (sorry, no non-members) and will be free of charge to enter.

Full details will be posted here in a couple of weeks time.

1st March 2018 - AGM and first Open Shoot of the year

Thanks to those of you who attended the AGM on 25th February. Unfortunately, as usual, the turnout was disappointing but we take heart in the logic that if only a few people turn up then most people must be reasonably happy with the way the club is being run.

A reminder that the first open shoot of the year is planned for Sunday 1st April 2018. This means that the club practice courses will be closed over that weekend.

For those of you wanting to shoot in the competition, you need to register and pay in advance. The entry form can be downloaded from the "Downloads and Links" page of this web site. Entry is open to all full NFAS members.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT WITH EFFECT FROM 1ST APRIL 2018 (THE DAY OF THE SHOOT) YOU WILL NEED TO PRESENT A CURRENT (2018-2019) NFAS MEMBERSHIP CARD BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. THIS IS AN INSURANCE REQUIREMENT AND THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

AGM and Membership Renewals

The AGM will be held at the club on Sunday 25th February 2018 starting at 10:00hrs. All members will be welcome and tea and coffee making facilities will be available.

Current memberships will expire on 31st March 2018 on which date the combination lock number will be changed. From that date, only full members for 2018- 2019 and their guests (signed in and accompanied whilst on the grounds) will be allowed at the club. Membership renewals are being accepted now. The membership application form has been emailed to all members who have an email address and by post for all others. Alternatively, it can be downloaded from the downloads page of this web site. All renewals should be accompanied by the application form (by email or by post) with payment as instructed on page 2 of the form. Please note that for insurance to be valid when you visit the club grounds, you must be a current member of the club or a guest in accordance with our club rules.
